Family of Thomas William Peters and Mary Ann McMonagle

Thomas William PETERS (son of William PETERS and Charlotte HAIN[E]S) was born abt 1803 in New Brunswick. He was baptised 3 June 1804 in Hampstead, Queens County, New Brunswick. He died 16 June 1880 in St. John, New Brunswick and was buried in Fernhill Cemetery, St. John, New Brunswick.

Thomas William PETERS married Mary Ann MCMONAGLE 6 March 1845 in Kings County, New Brunswick.

Mary Ann MCMONAGLE (probably the dau. of Cornelius MCMONAGLE and Anne [SCOTT]) was born abt 1816 in New Brunswick. She died 28 July 1854 in St. John, New Brunswick and was buried in Fernhill Cemetery, St. John, New Brunswick.

Thomas William PETERS and Mary Ann MCMONAGLE had the following children:

  1. Thomas William PETERS (abt 1848 - 1895)
  2. Frederick Cornelius PETERS was born about 19 October 1849 in St. John, New Brunswick. He went to the U.S. about 1874. His occupation is given as "Purser" in his father's probate papers and as "Messenger for an Express Co." on his death certificate. He died in Oakland, California 21 February 1938. He never married.
  3. Edward Albert PETERS was born abt January 1852 and died 27 October 1852 "after an illness of 3 months".

This family can be found in the 1851 St. John County, New Brunswick census. Obituaries in the St. John Morning News for Edward Albert 3 November 1852, Mary Ann 31 July 1854 and Thomas William Sr. 17 June 1880. The probate records of Thomas William Sr. name his two surviving sons. Frederick C. can be found in the 1910, 1920, and 1930 California (Alameda, Oakland) census records.
